Slovenia is a wine country! For those who did not know this yet and for those who are already convinced of the quality of Slovenian wines, the LOC is currently preparing wine tastings and wine tours. Soon you will learn more about the dates here. The tours will then also be bookable via the online registration form.
After the congress ends on Wednesday afternoon, our congress president Lucija Perharic will take you on a tour to Idrija.
This small town is located 60 km west of Ljubljana and became famous for the discovery of mercury in 1493. The mineral Idrialin, which was discovered here, is named after the place where it was found. For 500 years, until its closure in 1994, the Idrija mercury mine was the second largest in the world. In its golden age, the plant covered 13 percent of the world market. Part of the old mine can still be visited today. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage “Historic Mercury Extraction Sites: Almadén and Idrija.”
The bus tour includes the visit of the mercury mine and the house of the famous physician and botanist Scopolli.
